  6.    This is our first venture into high-level language programming on the PC
  7. and in making a program like this.  We KNOW that we have made a much 
  8. better program than the other file managers available for the PC especially
  9. in the area of ease of use.  We felt that the creators of the other file 
  10. managers were making incomplete, "DOS promoting" programs just for a quick
  11. buck (usually $40US).  Just to annoy the creators of those file managers, we 
  12. decided to make BOBBY free to everyone.  Please, ENJOY!

  15. First Of All, What Is BOBBY?
  16. ============================

  18.    BOBBY is a file managing Dos prompt replacer program that gives you the 
  19. capabilities of all disk activities with special features like playing 
  20. sounds, showing pictures, running your favourite programs all from a click 
  21. of a specific pre-defined button that's either built into the program or from 
  22. commands provided by you for a button.  These are but a few of the functions 
  23. you can do with BOBBY.  All this is provided and wrapped around a smartly 
  24. designed, easy to use 3D graphical interface.  We have also listened to and
  25. have thought about your gratest plea of all, and have agreed to make BOBBY
  26. 100% FREEWARE.

  29. How Does BOBBY Achieve Such EASE OF USE? 
  30. ========================================

  32. * It replaces the text mode of the DOS prompt with a High-Resolution display 
  33.   and graphical output.  Full color can now be seen on a pixel by pixel 
  34.   basis.  
  35.       
  36. * By having a smartly designed graphical interface commands and functions can
  37.   be performed with the littlest of effort and the fewest of clicks and key-
  38.   board inputs.

  40. * It provides complete commands for handling all of your actions.  If any 
  41.   errors occur, you will be notified in human readable messages rather than 
  42.   by error #'s.

  44. * Pop up Online Help + the Manual are available for every feature found in
  45.   BOBBY.  All the information you'll ever need about anything can be found 
  46.   while you are still in BOBBY.

  49. WHAT IS FEATURED IN BOBBY:

  52.    BOBBY comes bundled with many features that programs even costing up to 
  53. $100.00 (US) don't even have yet.  Here are a few:

  55. * Viewing of PCX/GIF picture file formats from standard VGA resolutions and 
  56.   colors Up To the crisp colors and higher resolutions of SVGA (with VESA 
  57.   support).  High resolution pictures which can't be displayed by your system 
  58.   are Automagically handled so that they "CAN" be viewed everytime.

  60. * Playing of VOC/WAV sound file formats with useful informational displays.
  61.  
  62. * The launching of other programs as "children" to handle certain tasks for 
  63.   BOBBY.

  65. * The launching your favorite programs by a simple double click on a 
  66.   Launching Icon you have created.

  68. * A "mouse-click-away" access from entering a long path name and viewing its 
  69.   contents.

  71. * User-defineable HOTKEYS for any action command

  94. * New Files Since XX Days.  You can tell BOBBY to highlight FILE DATES that 
  95.   are within a certain amount of days, to let you know that those files are

  98. * You can choose to edit/create up to 64 new Action Buttons and/or up to 24 
  99.   new Drive Buttons with all buttons a "mouse-click-away" from doing the task 
  100.   you set for them.

  102. * Sound FX play for BOBBY items.  Sound FX VOC/WAV sounds can be applied to
  103.   certain items found in BOBBY.  Such items include: 
  104.   +  BOBBY Startup: ie. play a Mozhart sound file when BOBBY first pops up.
  105.   +  BOBBY Buttons: ie. play a keyboard click sound everytime you click the 
  106.             3D push buttons.

  108. * Color coordinate the TEXT/BUTTON colors for all "64" 3D Action Buttons
  109.   and all "24" 3D Drive Buttons.

  114. System Requirements To Run BOBBY
  115. ================================

  117.     + IBM or Compatible 386 - 33 Mhz Machine or Higher 
  118.     + VGA Graphics Display Card
  119.     + Ms-Dos 5.0 or Higher
  120.     + 400K of XMS Memory or Higher 
  121.       (HIMEM.SYS should be set in your Config.sys file.)
  122.     + 200K of Conventional Memory Free or Higher
  123.     + Mouse (You must have your Mouse Driver pre-loaded)
  124.     + Hard Drive with At Least 1 Megabyte of Free Space

  127. Recommendation Requirements To Improve BOBBY:

  137. To Quickly Get BOBBY Up And Running
  138. ===================================
  139.  
  140.            Type:  INSTALL.EXE  (at the Dos Prompt)
  141.  
  142.   This will bring up BOBBY's INSTALLER.  This program is used to install 
  143. BOBBY properly onto your system.  You can only install BOBBY to a Hard Drive 
  144. that has at least 1 Megabyte of free space.  Please take notice of the system
  145. requirements (and recommendations) found at the bottom of the Install screen
  146. (and in the previous sections) before installing.
  147.  
  148.    Once you have provided the Installer with an acceptable path to install 
  149. to, select the INSTALL Button to begin the process. 
  150.    If everything goes as planned BOBBY will install correctly.  To run BOBBY
  151. either select the RUN Button in the Installer or:               
  152.            
  153.            Type:  BOBBY.BAT (at the Dos Prompt)

  156. How To Use BOBBY
  157. ================
  158. * For all SVGA owners, make sure to run your VESA support program to take 
  159.   advantage of the higher resolutions and higher colors for viewed pictures.
  160.  
  161. * Use your mouse to move around the mouse cursor found when using BOBBY.
  162. * The Directory Windows represent the two large window displays found in the
  163.   top half region of the screen.  The active Directory Window's Information  
  164.   Bar (found above either of the two windows) is shown in a pink color 
  165.   (default).  The active Directory Window represents the 'source' path and
  166.   the non-active Directory Window represents the 'target' path.
  167. * Clck and release one of the presented Drive Buttons, found at the bottom
  168.   half region (and to the far left), to show this buttons path in the current 
  169.   active Directory Window.
  170. * By clicking your left mouse button on the directory or file names presented 
  171.   in the Directory Windows, you can highlight these names to perform 
  172.   activities on.  Highlighted names that are clicked again will be de-
  173.   highlighted.
  174. * Click and release one of the shown Action Buttons found in the bottom half
  175.   region of the main screen to execute an action on these highlighted names.
  176. * Use the Scroll Bar found to the right of the Left Directory Window and  
  177.   found to the left of the Right Directory Window to scroll through names 
  178.   that may be unseen in the Directory Window.
  179. * Close down any popped up windows by hitting the ESC key on your keyboard.
  180. * The square display found on buttons of popped up windows represent that the
  181.   ESC key can be hit to cancel the action and close the window down.
  182. * The triangle display found on buttons of popped up windows represent that 
  183.   the ENTER key can be hit to perform the action it is displayed on.
  184. * Double-Click on any of the icons that you may have defined in the Icon 
  185.   Window (found just above the Action Buttons) to launch the program that 
  186.   icon represents.
  187. * Click the enigma (?) button found at the bottom-right corner of the screen
  188.   to access Online Help anytime in BOBBY.  Once the Online Help Window is up   
  189.   you can click on any of the buttons/zones that appear in the current active
  190.   window of the screen.  Help will be given on what it is, and how to use 
  191.   that button/zone.

  193. ** Check out the "Bobkeys.txt" (also found in the Manual) file for the 
  194.    listings of built-in keys and special mouse activities found in BOBBY.
